CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Ensemble Class
The ensemble class focuses on developing existing skills into a creative act, culminating in a BIG SHOW at the end of the Spring Session. Show development is ongoing September through June. This class is an invitation only class for advanced students ages 9 & up. the 2011/2012 ensemble class will be presenting a circus adaptation of Lewis Carrol's children's classic Alice in Wonderland in June 2011.
Skilly Stars
Skilly Stars is an open class for new and developing circus stars. Students will learn basic and intermediate circus skills, all learning is progressive. Skills include juggling and other skill toy manipulation, rola bola, stilts, tumbling, acro-balance, clowning, and methods for combining skills. Enrollment is ongoing and no experience is necessary. Ages 7 & up.
Homeschoolers
Circus arts provide a fantastic alternative to traditional sports and PE, offering something for everyone. This class focuses on introduction and ongoing development of a variety of circus skills. See Skilly Stars (above) for a more comprehensive description. Parents are occasionally invited to join the class. We offer classes through the Connecting Waters Charter School and all other Homeschoolers and Unschoolers are welcome! Enrollment is ongoing and no experience is necessary. Mondays ages 5-7, Wednesdays ages 7 & up.
PixieStix
Stiltwalkers unite! This unique class is focused on peg-stilt skill development. Kids practice ground techniques including yoga poses, getting up and down, and more. We also focus on synchronised movement, choreography, and navigating a variety of obstacles and terrains. Two beginners are accepted per class, to join permanently students must have their own stilts. Ages 9 & up.
School-Site Enrichment Classes
Skilly Circus currently offers after-school enrichment classes at the Aurora School in Oakland, and multiple elementary schools in Alameda (through AEF). See Skilly Stars (above) for a more comprehensive description of class content. If you are interested in bringing Skilly Circus enrichment classes to your after-school program please contact your PTA or the main office at your child's school.
WORKSHOPS
Workshops are tailored to your event or institution. Some examples:
Circus History & Skills - 30 minutes of circus history followed by a 90 minute circus skills workshop
Juggling - We'll come to your group or classroom and teach participants the fundamentals of juggling scarves and balls
Circus Skills - Workshops are tailored to your group and can include as many skills as you like!
